Listing Description

Built in 1972 by Officine dell'Ing. Dal Fiume in Ravenna to a design by Sparkman & Stephens, MAGIC is a One-off 55' aluminium alloy hull, an example of excellence in shipbuilding specialising in this material. All the fittings were carried out in a very refined manner by the Carlini shipyard in Rimini. The materials and components are of the highest quality and no expense was spared in its construction. She is a boat suitable for Classic regattas but with the characteristics of a blue water yacht. Course stability at all speeds, excellent seagoing qualities even upwind, allowing it to climb ocean waves with ease, the comfort of the low, well-protected central cockpit, good speed allowing it to easily reach averages of 170-190 miles per day, the sturdiness of the aluminium hull and excellent interior insulation are all features that make MAGIC an excellent ocean cruiser. HISTORYMAGIC is a boat of great class and pedigree. Originally built as an elegant IOR racer, she has proven to be a great boat for sailing around the world safely and quickly. Built for an owner in Bologna, in the 1990s she was purchased by Umberto Marzotto, a navigator and musician well known in ocean-going skipper circles, who was looking for a boat with which to sail the world's sailing routes for years to come. He told Giornale della Vela "MAGIC, a 55-foot Sparkman & Stephens sloop built in light alloy in 1973. Very fast, mast with three sets of spreaders, structural rigging, only 80 centimetres of freeboard. A bomb..." In 2011, Antonino Stefani and Lilly Strappaghetti, a couple of sailors who had already completed their first round-the-world sailing cruise between 2000 and 2005, chose her to repeat this feat, mainly along a tropical route. With various legs outside the tropics in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, between 2013 and 2018 they will cover 50,000 miles. This will be followed by various cruises to the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands until 2023, when the boat will stop at Faial in the Azores. Thanks to the exceptional quality of the materials used in her construction and continuous updates, after 50 years of sailing, MAGIC is still a very reliable and comfortable yacht, ready to continue sailing around the world or to enter the CIM regatta circuit for IOR and classic boats, where it can achieve good results. MAGIC now needs some cosmetic work and interior painting. What makes her interesting is her design, construction, perfect functionality and up-to-date maintenance. CONSTRUCTION AND ACCOMODATIONCONSTRUCTION The hull was constructed using 5083 Peraluman aluminium-magnesium alloy (AlMg4.5Mn), renowned for its exceptional resistance to corrosion (especially marine corrosion), excellent weldability (maintains strength after welding) and good toughness even at low temperatures. Insulated lead keel. Fitted out at the Carlini shipyard in 1973, rigging and fine-tuning supervised by Danilo Fabbroni. Teak-covered aluminium deck mounted on marine pl
